confession

Hi, my name is Melanie, and I have a problem.
Yes, sign me up for the 12 step program, because yes, I can admit it now, I am an addict.
I am hopelessly addicted to sugar. I read somewhere that sugar was found to be more addictive than cocaine (at least to rats). Anyway, I need to find me a program to get me off this stuff. Today I am having withdrawals (despite my brownie with my sugar cereal for breakfast). Man I could really use some candy right now!

I'm with you, Mel. I just ate about a pound of m&m's and am now craving a butterfinger shake. mmm...icecream.

Yeah, if you find a good program, be sure to let me know. I have the exact same problem!

I want all sorts of foods. I crave things that are chewy (no, I'm not pregnant, but do you have to be pregnant to have cravings?) and I crave things that are sweet. The best combo for sweet and chewy is a yummy cookie or a brownie. Sometimes I eat sweets overboard and don't feel so good. But I also feel like I definitely need them in my life. I've tried in the past to make rules for myself. For example, for a while I would only eat junkie sugar stuff (like cookies and cake and candy) once a week. But the problem was that the rest of the week I would crave it so much and then when I could finally have it, I would eat so many sweets that day that I'd feel sick. So this was not the right solution for me.
Right now, I allow myself to eat sweets, but I usually eat them within about 1/2 hour after a healthy meal. I feel better when I do this. Supposedly, if high sugar foods are eaten close to a meal, you feel better because it's not just sugar in your body, but the mixture of that and whatever you ate for your meal. When you eat sweets without anything else like fruits, vegies, and whole grains, the body gets a sugar high, followed by a sugar low--- which then makes us want more sugar.
Anyways, to sum it all up, I've decided not to eliminate sugar and sweets because I like them. I just try to eat them at times when I will feel better about it (like after a meal). This feels best to me.
Good luck and let me know if you find something that works for you because I'm always looking for new ideas!

Well... if this is new to you it may be because you are nursing so you get hungry and perhaps dehydrated? I don't know. I've been wanting cookies a lot more because of the fat than the sugar I think. It helps sometimes to have no sugary treats in the house so you have to at least work for it (ie: make cookies) or eat a replacement- like peanut butter on a spoon, with some chocolate chips. Heh.
Maybe someone needs to invent a sugar patch!

Melanie, I feel your pain. I've been an addict for years. There's a 3 for a dollar sale on wonka and nestle candy, and I've already wasted 6$ in the past week, 2 of which was on a soda. Beyond that, I bought candy at our school vending machine, and have made a ton of cookies and cakes.
yeah, I've been a sugar addict for years... If you find that 12 step program let me know. although, i'll run out of pocket money soon, so I won't be able to get any sugar anyway.
